The Sacral Chakra is also known as our pleasure centre, as it is strongly connected to our relationships, emotions and creativity. In this post, I will explain how to know if your Sacral Chakra needs healing, and how to do it.

Elements that work for the Sacral Chakra

This Chakra resonates with the colour orange. Surround yourself with marigolds during your meditation for a boost! For a sensory addition, you can also use essential oils while balancing your Sacral Chakra; Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood work best for balancing, and Fennel is good for cleansing.

The Sacral Chakra is also linked to the flow of water. If you can practice in an outdoor setting, being in or near a stream would be very beneficial.

Physically, this Chakra balances our sexuality, while mentally, it harmonises our emotions, joy and relationships. In women, it may enhance the feeling of femininity.

What does the Sacral Chakra do for us?

Your Sacral Chakra is responsible for bringing energy vibrations into your body, that balance sexuality and emotions. Modern technology such as mobile phones, microwaves and medical procedures like x-rays, interrupt these vibrations, so it’s important to cleanse and balance your Sacral Chakra when you feel you have had excessive exposure to these types of energies.

The link between the Sacral Chakra and Anxiety

Our bodies go into a ‘fight or flight’ response when we are in danger, and flood our system with adrenaline. When the perceived danger is real, this hormone can help to save our lives.

But modern life, with all its stresses can cause anxiety; this causes our bodies to believe there is danger, when there actually isn’t. The Sacral Chakra becomes overactive because it is linked to the adrenal glands. This can lead to you becoming over emotional, aggressive and manipulative.

An underactive imbalance, however, will more likely lead to over sensitivity, resentment and guilt.

Imbalances in this Chakra can cause bladder and kidney disorders, digestive complaints, migraines and reproductive system problems, as well as low energy levels. If you suffer with any of the above, it would be worth trying a simple cleansing meditation to see if it helps.

Cleansing the Sacral Chakra

  • Kneel down or sit comfortably in a cross-legged position, or on a straight backed chair
  • Rest your hands on your belly, over your belly button. Start by slowly breathing in and out to a count of 10. Repeat this 3 times, feeling your belly rise and fall with each breath
  • Now, with each incoming breath, push it down to the bottom of your lungs feeling your belly rise. Visualise channeling orange light into each in-breath, it can helpful to picture coloured light as a flower -for example, an orange marigold
  • Continue for up to 5 minutes and try to sense your sacral chakra. You may feel heat or vibration.

For more exercises to try, grab your copy of The Little Book Of Chakras from Amazon.

What can you expect after meditating on the Sacral Chakra?

I found the breathing and visualisation really relaxing and after a few practices, I found that I felt more feminine. Having a mantra whilst doing this exercise may be helpful, as it allows you to reaffirm your reasons for doing it.

My mantra has been: I feel my emotions and my pain, I invite my passions and surrender to this moment.

I chose this mantra because with anxiety, I often avoid my emotions and my pain. But this blocks positive energy as well as negative. There are plenty of mantras to try out, if you check Pinterest or Google. Try to find one that feels right to you.

When you have finished this exercise, don’t leave it there. Try keeping a journal of your cleansing practices to see which ones you find most beneficial. And if it doesn’t work the first time, there is no harm in trying it again. Remember – practice makes perfect!

What exactly is Root Chakra healing?

Grounding is a term used to describe the centering of your soul inside your body. When you suffer with anxiety, especially on a regular basis, it can be incredibly healing to ground yourself. By cleansing your Root Chakra, you are also grounding yourself.

How do you cleanse your Root Chakra?

There are many different ways to ground yourself. It really comes down to personal preference and what you feel comfortable with. The easiest way is to take a walk in nature.  Also, standing on grass barefoot can help. Or you can try breathing exercises, preferably in front of an open door or window (or outside if there is somewhere you can be uninterrupted).

I use a technique called ‘colour breathing,’ as the chakra’s respond to colour and it helps to focus on those colours when using breathing to ground yourself.

I also use a crystal in my grounding sessions. Different crystals hold types of energy that can be beneficial in healing practices. The best crystals for grounding are Obsidian, Tourmaline and Onyx. Choosing a crystal is a personal experience. You should the ones you are most drawn to, and then keep them with you so that they bond with your energy.

I will have posts coming up on crystal use and also on crystal healing, so keep an eye out for those!

The Root Chakra healing technique

  • Stand in a quiet, comfortable place, (preferably outside, or near an open window or door), and close your eyes.
  • Breathe gently a few times, paying attention as the breath enters and leaves your body.
  • When you feel yourself relaxing into the moment, bend down and place your hands on the floor. (Just your fingertips will do, I can’t do yoga either!)
  • Imagine breathing red light into the base of your spine; feel it re-energize your legs and spine as you take 3 deep breaths.
  • Slowly straighten your body, drawing the energy up with your hands, and rest them just below your belly button. Breathe in orange light to your sacral chakra on the next 3 breaths.
  • Move your hands up to the solar plexus and take another 3 deep breaths. This time, take yellow light in to your body.
  • Open your arms wide on either side of you and sway slightly (this made me feel weird the first time I did it. It helps to think of it as rocking a child, I find, but remember no one can see you, so it doesn’t really matter!) Breathe green light into your heart, and feel joy.
  • Place your hands on your throat and use the next 3 breaths to inhale a pure sky blue into your throat chakra.
  • When placing your hands over your brow or third eye chakra, create a triangle shape with your palms facing out and the tips of the thumbs and forefingers touching. Here, breathe in deep blue light.
  • Move the triangle onto the top of your head and breathe in violet light to your crown chakra.
  • Now stretch your hands right up and re-energize your whole chakra system with clear white light breaths.
  • Drawing the hands back down the front of your body, now take just one breath for each chakra. Touch the ground and feel balanced.

Now what?

Don’t expect miracles! It takes time to learn any new skills, and this is no exception. You will start to feel the benefits of your practice within a few days if you keep at it. Use grounding to start your practice each time, no matter what chakra you’re working on.

Keep an open mind. It helps to try not to have any preconceived notions of what you will or won’t feel, or what people may think of you for doing it. Remember that you are doing this for you, and no one else.

After your practice, you should feel peaceful and calm, yet strong and confident, and that can only be a good thing!

Chakra Healing – A Guide For Beginners

If you've been wondering how to get started with chakra healing, my post can help! #chakrahealing #meditationexercisesforchakras #spirituality

After learning how to manage my anxiety, I started exploring new ways to improve my health and well-being. One of the fascinating concepts I learned about is Chakra Healing. My best friend gave me a really cool book one Xmas, called The Little Book Of Chakras. It explains how becoming more aware of our chakras, we can learn to properly relax and improve our health and well-being. It gives you detailed instructions on everything to do with the chakras, and how to cleanse them.

If you want to learn Chakra Healing, read on…

I have started to use this book, in conjunction with certain crystals that aid in the healing process, and a book called Heal, Crystals Made Simple, to help me choose the relevant crystals for what I’m working on.

Sharing my findings with you on the blog will help me to keep a record of how it makes me feel, so I can see if I am making any progress. It will also help you to understand if it is something you would like to try.

Before starting this journey, I will admit to feeling a little sceptical! I am an open-minded person, but I wasn’t sure I believed that chakras were even real! However, I like to try things before I decide if they are for me or not, therefore this seems like as good a place to start as any!

What is a chakra?

Just as everything in the world is made of energy, so is the human body. The word ‘chakra’ is an old Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’. This is because the energy that moves inside you is spinning. It has 7 points, starting from the base of your spine and running all the way up your body to the top of your head.

What are the 7 chakras?

  1. Root; Muladhara (Root Support)
  2. Sacral; Svadhishana (The Place Of The Self)
  3. Solar Plexus; Manipura (Lustrous Gem)
  4. Heart; Anahata (Unhurt)
  5. Throat; Vishudda (Very Pure)
  6. Third Eye; Ajna (Beyond Wisdom)
  7. Crown; Sahaswara (Thousand Petaled)

What do they mean?

  • The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine, and its role is to connect our energy to the earth through a process called ‘grounding.’
  • The Sacral Chakra is located just below the belly button and is all about your identity as a human. It is known as your pleasure centre, as it is the energy that encourages you to indulge in pleasurable activities such as dancing, sports or sex.
  • The Solar Plexus Chakra is linked to your self confidence, identity and personal strength. This chakra is located where you would expect it to be – in your solar plexus, so it’s easy to see why it’s associated with your instincts, or ‘gut feelings.’
  • The Heart Chakra is where your love, kindness and compassion are. Its location is right over the heart, and it is all about your love for others and yourself, and is associated with health and healing.
  • The Throat Chakra is the home of your personal truth. This chakra is located in your throat and when balanced allows you to speak with truth, love and kindness.
  • The Third Eye Chakra opens your mind to the possibilities of things we don’t understand. Intuition, or psychic energy, comes from this chakra, which is located in the centre of the forehead.
  • And lastly, the Crown Chakra, which is pure conscious energy, helps to keep us well by making energy vibrations available to our physical body. Its location is at the top of your head and extends up and out to connect you with the energy of the universe.

How cleansing your chakras can improve your well-being.

Chakra healing is closely related to the philosophy of yoga. Experts tell us that yoga is beneficial due to the movement of energy, called Prana or Chi, around the body when practicing.

The belief is that blocked energy in one or more of the chakras can lead to illness in those areas associated in the body, so by using chakra healing, or cleansing techniques, we can shift this energy and release the tension build up in the chakras.

When our chakras are balanced, our bodies and minds feel more in harmony, our sleep and health improves and our relationships benefit.

What am I hoping to gain out of this?

After reading The Little Book Of Chakras, I feel I have a better understanding of the term chakra! It is basically just energy moving around our bodies which is an idea I can get behind. I have read some of the effects that this blocked energy can have on the mind and body, and some of them really speak to me!

For example:

The Base Chakra being overactive will bring about feelings of anxiety. This is something I have suffered with all my life. It stems from an uneasy childhood that had me on edge a lot.

The Sacral Chakra being underactive can cause a loss of sex drive. This is something I have been battling with for a few years, I believe due to poor health and some failed relationships.

The Heart Chakra being overactive can result in us always putting others before ourselves. I am guilty of this to a frightening degree!

As I work through each chakra, I will keep a record right here to help you understand how it can help you too.
